April 2025

President's Corner
A word from VAS President - Dan Foutz

To all our supporters, athletes, coaches, sponsors, and volunteers,

Spring has sprung and it is hard to believe we are in the 4th month of 2025. Now is the time for everyone to get outside and enjoy the warmer weather. The summer Virginia Commonwealth Games will be here before you know it, and registrations are now open. A few of our sports offerings, like basketball, will sell out fast, so register now! The Smith Mountain Lake Triathlon is a few weeks out on May 3rd, and with the warmer temperatures, the water temperatures are rising. There is still time to register. You can make it a relay.

Please read this month’s Spotlight Coordinator article on Amanda Crawford. Amanda is our bowling coordinator, and for the second year, we will feature ABLE Bowling on July 24th at the NRV Superbowl in Christiansburg, VA. Our ABLE events provide opportunities for our adaptive and inclusive communities to compete and participate in the Commonwealth Games. Keep in mind that Virginia Amateur Sports is a 501(c)(3) organization. Please consider donating to our organization to support our efforts in promoting the values of health and wellness through competitions, education, and training for all Virginians. Click here to donate now.

If you are interested in sponsoring a youth team. Please email me for more information at dfoutz@commonwealthgames.org.  Thank you for your consideration.

As always, we appreciate your support and participation. Continue to train, practice, and prepare, and I look forward to seeing you all out there!

Best to all!

Dan Foutz
