We regret that due to continued effects of Hurricane Florence including road closures, traffic flow impacts, and flooding, the Reach the Beach event scheduled for Saturday, September 29, 2018 is canceled. Although there is some progress towards recovery in the coastal area and southeastern North Carolina, there is too much uncertainty and too much risk to enable us to hold the event.
All current registrations will be automatically deferred to Reach the Beach 2019. No action is necessary. Once event registration opens in 2019, you will be contacted with registration information and instructions as applicable. Deferrals can only be used by the original registrant. Once a deferral is processed, a refund will no longer be available for either the 2018 or 2019 event.
If you would prefer a partial refund of your registration and transportation fees, please contact Jill@InsideOutSports by midnight on Friday, September 28, 2018. We will refund your payment minus $15 to cover the processing fees and the expenses already incurred.
In place of Reach the Beach, we are offering a FREE social ride on Saturday, September 29, departing from Inside-Out Sports at 7:30 am. An 85-mile and a 55-mile route will be available covering some of the favorite cycling roads in the Triangle area. Food and drink will be provided after the ride at Inside-Out Sports. Please RSVP by registering to participate (at no charge) at the Reach the Triangle website. On the registration site, you may also make a cash donation for Hurricane Florence Relief.
Thank you for your interest in Reach the Beach and your patience as we tried to make the rescheduled date work. We sincerely apologize that we had to cancel the event and appreciate your understanding.
We hope you will join us for Reach the Beach next year!
End the summer with a memorable trip to Wilmington by participating in the second annual Reach the Beach event!
By mid-September, Wilmington temperatures are cooler (average high 84, average low 66) but all the beach town attractions are still in full swing! Start off Saturday with a 100-mile bike ride to downtown, unwind at Waterline Brewing Company, and meet up with other friends to enjoy the rest of the weekend in Wilmington! We encourage our participants to make arrangements to meet friends and family there and spend the night to make the most of this fun weekend! However, for those that must return home, we have a return transportation option that can be purchased.
Basics of the Event
The Second AnnualReach the Beach 100-mile bike event presented by Inside-Out Sports will take place on Saturday, September 15, 2018. The ride will begin at Campbell University in Buies Creek, just 30 miles outside of the Triangle. Riders will depart at 8am and follow roads through rural North Carolina to Wilmington. The route, almost exclusively on 421, will end at Waterline Brewing Company in historic downtown Wilmington.
All riders must complete the 100-mile route and check in at the finish by 5:30 pm (9 hours and 30 minutes after the start). Riders will be able to meet this schedule if they average at least a 14 mph pace and stop for no more than 1 hour and 25 minutes throughout the ride. A support vehicle will remove riders from the course that are unable to complete in the designated time.
Ride participation is limitedso register quickly before the ride sells out!

Returning to the Start
A maximum of 55 participants may purchase the additional "Return Transportation" option to be transported via charter bus from the ride end point in Wilmington back to the ride start. The transportation package includes return transport of your bike by Inside-Out Sports. The "Return Transportation" option must be purchased in advance either at the time of registration or by signing up here.
Riders not purchasing the transportation option in advance are responsible for their own return trip and for the retrieval of any vehicle left at the ride start. Vehicles parked in Buies Creek can remain until Sunday night. So, participants do not have to rush back!
If the optional charter bus transportation offered by the event doesn't work for you, here are some creative ways Reach-the-Beachers returned in the past:
Call in the support team!
Have your family or friends drop you off at the event start and drive on to the beach. They relax for a few hours and meet you at Waterline Brewing Company for a fun afternoon there. Return that evening or make it a weekend getaway!
Offer to pay a buddy's registration fee if his/her support crew can provide return transportation for both of you!
Uber to the rescue!
Reserve a rental vehicle in Wilmington with enough space to get your bike in the back. Call Uber from Waterline Brewing Company to get you to the rental location.
Bonus: hook up with other Reach-the-Beachers to share the cost of the return ride.
Grab an empty seat from another Reach-the-Beacher's support team!
If your own biggest fans can't make it to Wilmington that day, reach out to other participating cyclists. Very likely there is space on their rack and in their car for another Reach-the-Beacher!
Contact Jill@InsideOutSports.com if you need help lining up a ride.
Bonus: Opportunity to connect with new cycling friends!
Cycle back home!
Make it a double century by refueling at Waterline before setting out to cycle back home. You can make it before dark if you ride fast enough!
OR spend the night at a local hotel in Wilmington and get a fresh start Sunday morning for the century ride home!
Share with us your fun and creative ideas for the return trip!
This event will occur rain or shine. If the event must be cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions or other situations beyond our control, an alternative date will be established and all registrations will be transferred to the subsequent date. Unfortunately, we can not offer refunds.
